Miami State Of Mind

A few months ago, an Ohio transplant I met during a conference asked me how I could possibly be happy living in Miami, a city so full of beautiful, successful people who are always networking 24/7, working hard and playing harder.

My bewildered response was “How could I not?!” You see, this fellow said he was raised on a farm (there’s farms in Ohio?!) and the most “networking” he’d ever done was with his pet pig named Dorothy. (To this day I still don’t know whether he was kidding.) I promptly gave him my business card and told him to contact me if he ever needed anything. Homeschooled and far from the big city most of his life, this poor chap was overwhelmed with Miami’s energy. And he’d only moved to town a few days prior to take on a new gig as a retail manager at a big department store. I wish this story had a happy ending, but the guy ended up moving back to Ohio in less than a month’s time. He just couldn’t take it. It’s not easy to make it down here, folks. But it’s very much possible. In this issue, we showcase 20 young Miami professionals who have excelled beyond their wildest dreams in their respective careers — regardless of where they came from, or where they’re going. Their stories will inspire you to do your best and always strive for the stars, in spite of any obstacles that may be stacked against you. You know what they say: “If you can make it in Miami, you can make it anywhere”…well, it doesn’t really go exactly like that, but it’s true.
