City Year has a network of 187 AmeriCorp members who help in tutoring, mentoring and guiding students to aim high at 10 high schools and 7 middle schools throughout Miami-Dade County, impacting about 6,500 students every year across the country. The City Year Miami team is led by Keith “Fletch” Fletcher who has a long history in the education empowerment community. But you don’t have to don the trademark red City Year jacket or be the Executive Director to get involved with the organization. There are fundraising events throughout the year that are open to the public, including Volunteer Day on MLK Day, Career Day in January, and an annual Women’s Leadership Luncheon. They also accept donations year-round to support their efforts; CityYear.org/Miami.
