It is said that “good fences make good neighbors.” For Rafael Leon, good fences make good business. What started in 1997 as a company that made gates for the fencing industry has now evolved into a thriving business. “We went from a small chain link gate manufacturer with a couple of employees in 1997 to a fence wholesale supplier and installation company with over 40 employees to date,” he says. Over the years, Fence City diversified their manufacturing and distribution operation to include chain link fencing, PVC, wood, metal and decorative fences. Since 2012, Fence City has served as the exclusive installation provider for Home Depot across South Florida and is #1 in the nation in sales and the largest installation provider in the region.
When it comes to picking a fence, Leon and his team use state-of-the-art technology to help customers understand the options permitted for their home and what’s trending. “Our customers have different reasons for wanting a fence,” says Leon. “Some are looking for a decorative touch, added security or extra privacy while others come to us to help ensure their children have a safe place to play.”
A typical adult will pick a fence only once in their lifetime and there are plenty of considerations to take into account including materials, style, budget, and, of course, safety. “As the summer approaches and we welcome friends and family to our homes, it’s critical for families with pools to install a safety fence,” warns Leon. “While you may be confident in your child’s swimming abilities, you want to make sure your home is safe for all your guests, all the time.”
Leon attributes the success of his business in large part to the investment he makes in his staff and sales team. “Each team member participates in training courses to help bolster their knowledge of our products, installation methods and quality control,” he says. “We want our clients to be happy with the end product and that starts by ensuring that our team is the most knowledgeable in the field so that they can provide our clients with the best information available and a successful result.”
Even though empowering and investing in his team has resulted in greater efficiency, better client satisfaction and a happy and engaged workforce, Leon credits being able to maintain a small yet successful business continuously afloat for 20 years in a fluctuating economy as one of his greatest successes. “In my personal life, my beautiful and loving family and wife bring me more joy than I could have ever imagined possible,” he says.; FenceAccess.com.
