The great Walt Disney once said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Well, a little help wouldn’t hurt, either. At Dreammakers Theatrical Enterprises, a full-service theatrical production and marketing company, they help make those dreams come true. “I’m the kind of person that likes to make things happen,” says founder Glauber Barceló. “So after a while I realized that in order to accomplish my artistic goals I knew that I couldn’t rely on the ‘status quo.’ I realized that I’d need a strong and solid company where my artistic and commercial visions merge into something bigger than both of them by themselves, a synergy of the artist and the entrepreneur in me.”
And that’s how Dreammakers was born. Glauber teamed up with partner and friend Carlos Salazar Bastos, who has a Doctorate Degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University. Barceló couldn’t have picked someone better. For many years, Salazar Bastos was the Technical Director of the Teresa Carreño Performing Arts Center in Caracas, the largest theater and artistic complex in Venezuela. He was also the manager and director of the Riviera Theater in Miami. This collaboration enables the kind of full array of services they offer, which includes anything related to producing, managing, and marketing of theatrical shows.
As an actor, Glauber is constantly in search of great characters to play; as a director, he wants to direct the outstanding plays that house these characters; for him, the only way to be able to do both was to take on the role of producer which, according to him, is the entrepreneurial side of that “triad.” “The goal of these three ‘characters’ in me was to create and produce shows that reflect the plurality of Miami’s modern audience and fill the void of great theatrical productions this city lacks, specifically for the Hispanic audience,” he explains. “So they can enjoy award-winning plays and hits currently playing on Broadway, Off-Broadway and at the most prestigious venues around the world, all in Spanish and here in Miami.”
Dreammakers’ mantra is simple: “One Play, One Hit!” They measure a hit not only by numbers, but by every single member of the audience who was completely satisfied with the experience. Their mantra is overtly displayed by a seemingly “crazy” initiative: The offer of a full, money-back guarantee. If that’s not show power, we don’t know what is.
