For nearly a decade, songbird Julie Budet, experimental hip-hop producer TEPR and drummer/DJ GrandMarnier have been crafting a domestically successful blend of bass-heavy dance pop under the moniker Yelle…all without uttering a single word in English.

The French-speaking triad balances their eclectic sample-laden sound with hard-hitting percussion, while highlighting Julie Budet’s sometimes sultry, sometimes soprano voice and verbose lyrical style. The fashion-conscious front woman often dons functional Freddy Mercury-esque bodysuits or aesthetically adventurous dresses stitched from recycled purses while strutting across the stage. The band’s commitment to animated live performances and surreal music videos may be additional reasons the group was invited to perform locally at the Art Loves Music concert series during Basel. This led to a string of tours which stopped at Coachella, Sasquatch and the Fun Fun Fun Festival in Austin.
