Behind the bar at the legendary Mike’s At Venetia, one of Miami’s longest-established and hidden neighborhood joints, is Sara Shelow, one of the bar’s most adored staffers. “Mike’s is my home and my co-workers and regulars are like family — in fact, many are family,” shares the Miami-lifer who started working at her family-owned bar when she was only 16 and took to curating cocktails as soon as she was legally allowed to serve alcohol to the venue’s loyal, longtime patrons. The bold, always smiling blonde showcases her 305 pride with a tattoo of the ever-growing Miami skyline, although she admits it’s way overdue for an update thanks to the latest mega-boom in the number of towers that currently dot our skies. So what does she do on her rare days off? “I love year-round ocean dips, but seeing Miami grow as a city and being part of the action is what makes living here a truly awesome experience,” she says.
