After fleeing the shores of Cuba late one January night, Roberto Ramos and his brother ventured off to the U.S. with nothing but dreams of opportunity and a precious collection of artwork. After 3 days adrift without food or water in the straits of Florida, the U.S. Coast Guard saved their lives, and so began their American Dream. Fast-forward 20 years later and Roberto is President of Cubaocho Art & Research Center. However, this is not your standard staid museum. Some of the most important activities at Cubaocho are the music and dance. It’s an eclectic place where the artworks exhibited in the museum are continuously changed, so much so that Cubaocho completely transforms itself every week to present to the public a variety of styles in music and fine art. Even the events are varied; weddings, birthday parties, corporate meetings, book launches, exhibitions of paintings and sculptures, all focused on Cuban cultural expression and having a good time; Cubaocho.com.
