We’ve all heard the snide comments about the Boxster calling it the “Barbie Porsche” but those who actually know cars recognized this compact, mid-engine convertible as an under-estimated track star when it first arrived on our roads. For 2024, the Porsche 718 Spyder RS gets even better as it is essentially a convertible GT4, complete with a 493-hp flat-six engine with a 9,000 RPM redline, linked to a PDK seven-speed automatic gearbox. The suspension is just a tiny bit softer than that of the GT4, making this an ideal weekend track toy and daily driver. The interior is comfortable even for long drives, but race-oriented, with door straps instead of handles, and a manual soft top, all in the interest of keeping weight low and performance high.
