Sun Power

The motto of Sunreef’s 33-meter Explorer Eco yacht could be “All Fun, No Fumes,” owing to its innovative ability to harness the power of the sun for propulsion and ancillary power needs.

Providing a total of 5,797 sq. ft. of living area spread over several levels, the Sunreef 33M Explorer Eco Yacht has a LOA of 110-feet, with a 37 ft.-wide beam. Propulsion is provided by a pair of 400-kW electric motors and two 300-kW range extenders, all linked to a 990-kWh battery pack. Sunreef designed this yacht for long voyages, with its exterior area incorporating as many solar panels as possible, resulting in their placement across the vessel’s superstructure, from the hulls to the roof and across the entire width of the bow. In addition to the motors, these panels, which are said to be able to generate up to 50 kWp of electricity, also power the electronics and creature-comfort systems from A/C to the pump that keeps the pool aft of the main deck swirling and clean. The flybridge houses the wheelhouse and an extremely capacious owner’s suite, which is accented by a private open-air lounging area. The yacht can be laid out with up to 4 guest staterooms, plus crew quarters, and/or a gym, a library, or spa; Sunreef-Yachts.com.
