Tapped by Shahab Karmely of KAR Properties to create something that was architecturally distinct and had presence, Raphael Viñoly spent months on an in-depth analysis of single and double towers with different focal points, varying shapes and configurations to capitalize on the extraordinary location of One River Point at the widest part of the Miami River. In the end, a split tower design defined by two rectangular volumes offset in the East/West direction was conceived to maximize the visual drama and ensure the buildings did not overlap each other’s views. As a result, each residence will feature an extensive outdoor living terrace complete with sweeping vistas of the Miami River, Biscayne Bay, the city skyline and the ocean beyond. Glass and exposed concrete define the exterior of the building, completing the clean modernist vision. “The building is a solution for a very specific site which is fabulous and independent of the design,” he says. “You could always see the water, but it has its own capacity, creating a sense of downtown, urban and interrelated life around. It means the opportunity to walk, to meet people and do things — to enjoying a certain collective sense of life!”; OneRiverPoint.com.
