Although we can learn a lot about ourselves and others from all these types of friendships, the key to creating a lasting bond that will last a lifetime is to really get to know a person, what makes them tick, their dreams, their dreads. This involves making time to see each other, critiquing each other’s weaknesses and celebrating one another’s successes. Sure, there are friends you can casually hang out with now and then, or that you can go out with to party the night away without ever saying a word to one another, but those friendships won’t change your life. There’s no real power in those connections; you’re not going to take over the world with those people. Real power lies in true friendship. And that’s worth much more than a dime a dozen, no matter which way you look at it.

“When meeting someone for the first time, don’t ever close yourself off to the possibility that they could become a friend for life.”
