It was a match made in heaven: Isaac Saiz & Caroline Gallina were neighbors, and each the owner of a beloved rescue dog. After connecting over Saiz’s need for help with a foster dog, Pancho, the pair found themselves engaged to be married a year later. But a romantic relationship wasn’t all that grew out of the connection. They also founded Save The Strays, an organization devoted to finding foster homes for dogs that might otherwise be euthanized. The group works particularly hard to rehabilitate “unadoptables” — older dogs and pooches with medical conditions. They’re constantly looking out for more foster homes for pets, or for people who wish to adopt a new companion. Join them on Dec. 12 from 5-9 p.m. at their holiday event with adoptable pets, appetizers and a silent auction at the Downtown Athletic Club; SaveTheStrays.org.

Giving back is essential for building stronger communities, fostering empathy and inspiring the next generation. It cultivates a sense of responsibility and creates opportunities for those in need. Ultimately, it enriches both the giver and the receiver in ways that only those who experience altruism for themselves can understand.
