If asked to describe drums in one word, many would say “loud.” However, Roland has found a way to let drummers rock out to their heart’s content without incurring the ire of anyone within earshot. The “VQ” in the name of their new VQD106 kit stands for “Very Quiet,” and the design allows the drummer to hear the full sound via headphones as they jam, while those nearby hardly hear anything at all. The drumhead pads and cymbals are designed with honeycombed rubber inserts that absorb impact and reduce stick noise, resulting in minimal sound even when played enthusiastically. Vents on the underside of the surfaces help further dissipate sound. The drummer hears everything at full volume through headphones, while family, roommates, and the neighbors are blissfully unaware.
