Though the current state of the economy has given us our woes, there’s been one upside: the start-up of countless small businesses. Case in point: Shannon Saint Clair — not only is she an NFL wife to Miami Dolphin player John Saint Clair (some would argue this to be a full-time occupation in itself), she’s also a couture jewelry maker. And she’s very good at it. “From designing jewelry and sewing garments to interior decorating, I’m very passionate about creating art,” explains Saint Clair. “This stems from my childhood, when my mother taught me how to sew at age 5.”
Shannon Saint Clair Couture Jewelry is as exclusive as it comes. The jewelry pieces are handcrafted using genuine sterling silver, gold and other precious metals fused with semi-precious stones such as onyx, opal, jade, quartz, amethyst, turquoise and freshwater pearls, to name a small few. With so many stones, crystals, metals and color schemes, there’s jewelry to match any and every outfit — from a white t-shirt and jeans to a violet evening gown. “My large statement necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings as well as my traditional, smaller-sized jewelry are loved by all fashion enthusiasts, from the conservative to the more risqué types,” says Saint Clair. “My pieces are one-of-a-kind, which define my work as edgy, elegant and exotic.”
Ever the cunning marketer, Saint Claire reaches out to her clients, both potential and existing, online. But for the old-fashioned yet fashionably trendy, there are a few stores throughout South Florida that carry her quality lines. But don’t let her good fortune have you assuming she’s resting on her laurels. With the quality and style this chic lady’s lines offer, the only way she can go is up. “Even though I’m gaining recognition in South Florida, I’m still striving to become known nationally and globally,” she says.
So why does she do it? “I love being a designer. Whether it’s sewing clothes, decorating homes or creating jewelry, I was determined to turn my hobbies into a profession when I graduated from college,” she says. “I can’t imagine a better job than one where you’re doing what you love for a living!”
