All of us have horror stories of blind dates gone wrong or of fairytale-worthy first dates turned into everlasting love or lifelong friendships. I’ve found there is ONE thing that really matters when it comes to ensuring a date — any date — is an experience worth remembering: LAUGHTER. Yes, folks, if you’re not chuckling it up, you’re not REALLY having a good time. And I’m not talking about a polite giggle or a forced smile at a lame joke, I’m talking about ab-wrenching LOLs. The type of laughter that only comes when two people “get” each other for a brief instance of magic that only comes with sharing a good laugh. Whether it’s witty, sarcastic, dirty, quirky, slapstick, self-deprecating or we’re-in-this-together humor, as long as you both find it funny and it doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s fair game. Just the other night a friend of mine sent out a mass text to all her contacts: “My date left me on a boat!” Sad for her, but HILARIOUS when I shared it with my date. Mean? Maybe. But I knew my friend would be OK. This isn’t the first time she’s been stranded on her journey toward finding true love. And I’m sure it won’t be the last.
