Ladies First

When I sat down to interview Tere Blanca for this issue’s cover story, I didn’t quite know what to expect. Throughout my career I’ve interviewed presidents and first ladies, celebrities and athletes of every sort, literary icons and inspirational angels in disguise who live their lives quietly and give back more than they could ever expect to receive. Tere Blanca immediately struck me as the latter, combined with the successes of the former. What’s most impressive about her is that she truly leads a balanced life: career, family, fitness, hobbies, philanthropy, mentoring…photoshoots and interviews — she seems to give each aspect of her life the proper amount of time, nurturing, attention and dedication it needs to flourish. Even more impressive is the fact that she is a woman at the top of her game in a historically male-dominated field…and she had the guts to leave her comfy throne atop one of the world’s most revered firms to launch her very own business venture during one of the toughest economic times in history. Is she crazy? No. She’s a testament for women the world over that you can simultaneously be a mother and a money-maker. You can mix beauty with business. You can showcase femininity and still excel financially. You can smile and show the world that you truly love your life without worrying about the repercussions of mixing affection with achievement. And that is something that every man, woman and child should aspire to. Take the time to read the cover story I authored on her entitled “All Eyes On Her.” I promise that when you’re done reading the words I’ve weaved, you’ll have a better understanding of why I dedicated this entire page to the impression she left on me. And if you’re wondering how I greeted her when we first met, it was with a kiss on the cheek instead of the firm handshake she offered. Because after all, she is a lady and ladies always come first.
