Interior Design Trends 2027: Earth Tones, New Heritage & Wellness

Rarely do forecasters, color houses and designers land on the same idea at the same moment. For the interior design trends of 2027, they have done just that. Expect warmth, texture, craft and a looser grip on traditional rules that will last well beyond a season for a home that truly feels lived in.

Earth Tones Rise

White walls are heading for the exit. Olive, terracotta, clay, ochre, deep burgundy and chocolate brown are moving in, layered against timber, natural stone and tactile fabrics. Mocha and cocoa add depth, while soft linen and ivory keep daylight traveling across the room. The effect is cocooning where the past decade was stark. Designers are treating color as a way to shape how a room feels, which explains why the palette runs so rich and so warm.

Sapphire Moment

Both WGSN and Coloro named Luminous Blue their Color of the Year for 2027, a saturated sapphire that forecasters compare to lapis lazuli. It’s described as both mysterious and eccentric, which is exactly its charm. Klein blue holds its ground as one of the boldest accent colors on the board. Set either shade against the warm earth tones above and the contrast does the talking. One strong blue is often all a room needs to feel finished and a little daring.

Analogue Rooms

Screens are losing the living room. Game rooms and reading corners are gaining ground as designers build spaces meant for slowing down, with room for every kind of escapism from a good book to a long round of play. Bookshelves are getting a colorful refresh too, so the shelf itself becomes part of the show. These rooms work as destinations, designed to pull you away from the glow of technology and toward something you can hold.

New Heritage

Antiques are walking into contemporary rooms and leaving their formality at the door. Collected interiors favor individuality and curated nostalgia, with comforting familiarity winning out over matched sets. An heirloom beside a modern sofa is confident rather than fussy. The 2027 home looks assembled over time, with pieces chosen for the stories they carry and the way they feel in daily use. Perfection is officially outdated.

Wellness Built In

Buyers want natural light, calm spaces and spa-style aesthetics, and that appetite is only growing. Sustainability is also shifting from trend to expectation, with longevity, locally sourced materials and environmentally conscious living leading the conversation. Interiors are expected to reflect and improve daily routines and a zen mentality, shifting the home from a showpiece to a sanctuary.
