A 20-foot stainless steel colossus now anchors Miami International Airport’s Central Boulevard entrance, and it arrives with serious symbolic weight. Renaissance of Towers, the three-ton work by internationally acclaimed artist Helidon Xhixha, marks the airport’s centerpiece tribute to America’s 250th anniversary. Seventy U.S. flags line the Central Garden nearby, turning the approach into a patriotic corridor that frames the sculpture’s mirrored surfaces. Completed in 2007 and previously shown in Venice, Florence, Berlin, Como, and Milan, the piece pulls its form from the American flag and the Twin Towers, a dual homage to national resilience and the victims of 9/11.
