Healing Hands

For Nurse Estela Torres, a typical day at VEG 24/7 Pet Emergency Hospital is anything but ordinary.

“Regardless of the situation, our staff always strives to accommodate our visitors and get on their level, whether it’s sitting on the floor with them, communicating in their preferred language or offering them snacks and beverages so they aren’t sitting there with only fear in their bellies,” she says. The most fulfilling part of her job is alleviating the fear that is always present in the ER. “It makes the healing process much simpler and enjoyable because when the animal can relax a little, then the human can relax, and we are better able to continue getting their pets back to where they want to be,” she says. She remembers a time when a French bulldog came in because of heat stroke after a walk. He had every possible complication imaginable and had to remain intubated. “After staying for a little over a week, he had a full recovery and was able to go home,” she says. “That was a day of celebration for us all at the hospital!”; VEG.com.
