Come Together

Since 1975, The League Against Cancer has served patients who lack the financial means to cover the costs of essential medical services and life-saving treatments. This year, longtime volunteer Manny Alfonso is chairing the organization’s annual Telethon, hoping to reach as many people as possible to make the biggest impact.

As the VP/Developer & Chair of The League Against Cancer annual Telethon, Manny Alfonso is not only a dedicated volunteer, he has seen first-hand the impact of cancer on individuals and families. “I became involved in the organization to give back — something my grandmother taught me from an early age,” he says. His grandmother died from cancer and he himself is a cancer survivor. Today, the biggest generator of funds for the organization is the annual Telethon, scheduled for September 2023. It is a gargantuan effort that involves more than 2,000 volunteers. All funds gathered during the Telethon go toward the mission of offering treatments to cancer patients in financial need. Presently, the League has provided top-quality medical services to more than 65,000 low-income and uninsured Florida residents from 51 countries and counting. “The organization’s mission is to keep helping the South Florida community, just as it has been for the past 40 years,” says Alfonso. “We hope to aid the community in receiving life-saving treatment and care through our cancer services and preventative treatments.”; LigaContraElCancer.org.
