Where Everyone Knows His Name

Visitors to stylish bar and bistro Café Prima Pasta all agree: While the food is fantastic and the drinks delightful, what really makes a night in this hotspot complete are the ministrations of bartender extraordinaire Henry Villar.

It’s a cultural archetype unfortunately much fallen by the wayside in the modern break-neck pace of our marketplace-oriented mainstream; the affable bartender seasoned for over a decade in the troubles, joys and tastes of his clientele. And most are happy with that arrangement, amiable to exchanging generous tips for fast service. But for those interested in acquiring their own congenial cantina keep, someone just as interested in their personhood as their paycheck, where is one to turn? Why, no further than Café Prima Pasta, where 15-year veteran Henry Villar holds court over a staggering selection of wines, beers and cocktails. “I belong to my people, my customers,” he says. “They take care of me every week, and I love them for it.” A mainstay at his place of employ, many of Villar’s finest memories occurred right where he’s most comfortable, behind the bar. “One of my most unforgettable memories was when I found out I was going to be a father again,” he says. “I shared the news with everyone, from the waiters to our customers, who just happened to include Michael Jordan and his wife. We all cheered and celebrated together. It was wonderful.”
