California Closets’ humble beginnings date back to 1978 when its founder, Neil Balter, then an 18-year-old college student, was inspired to invent an efficient way of maximizing closet space in dorm rooms. Almost 4 decades later, the company remains at the forefront of the industry it created, anticipating and adopting upcoming trends in stylish, smart and sustainable designs.
With over 60 franchises in the U.S., Mexico, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the California Closets Miami franchise continues to be one of the best in the country. It offers local manufacturing and provides service to the entire Miami-Dade County area and The Keys. Continuously picking up market share and solidifying their mark at the top of their industry, it’s no wonder California Closets installs more closets than anyone else. “Building the product in-house allows us to control quality and the timing of the entire process,” says Jonathan Seltzer, GM at California Closets Miami. “Unlike other firms, we don’t have to wait weeks to get our doors, drawers or anything else that is typically sourced from a third party.” As a further refinement of the building process, the company maintains an inventory of all its current finishes — from a simple white to deep-grained Italian finishes — reducing the time needed to create their customized pieces. “We often get calls from existing customers requesting additional shelves, extra hanging poles or new accessories,” he says. “We have the ability to fulfill those requests extremely fast.”
While standard sizes are offered, the company’s designers can customize pieces to the needs of their clients. The company prides itself on handling spaces of all sizes and can cater to just about any project and price point. “We do not tell the customer what they need or where things should be,” explains Seltzer. “Instead, we work with the customer to guarantee that our customized system will fit their lifestyle, fit their things and fit in their home.”
From the inception of a project, the designer will discuss all the options the customer has in terms of the extensive selection of top-of-the-line finishes, hardware, accessories, etc. By the end of the consultation, clients can review 3D drawings and will have the cost of the designs ready to review. Throughout the entire process, the designer remains in contact with the client, including a final satisfaction follow-up once the installation team has completed their work. What’s more, the designers have years of experience in creating customized solutions and it’s amazing to see the creativity that can be yielded with the available accessories. For example, there are multiple uses for valet rods; pull-out hampers are used as great space-savers; and there are even pull-out mirrors that can be hidden away when not in use.
The skill level of the staff is equally impressive; it’s the degree to which all California Closets’ employees focus on customer satisfaction that makes the company truly stand out. The office staff, engineers, factory specialists, designers and installers are the reason for the company’s outstanding reputation for excellent customer service.
Technology is another area where California Closets is innovating the future of the industry. “Our new CAD program revolutionizes the design process,” says Seltzer. “The program allows designers and customers to easily add, remove and tweak all the details.” It allows for complex designs to be drawn and presented. Customers are consistently delighted by how quickly the entire space can be customized and how they are able to see it come to life in the 3D viewer. “The new software is an investment into customer service,” he continues. “We are committed to listening to their needs, working closely with them and never forgetting that it’s a true privilege to be invited into someone’s home and their life.”
There’s a reason that California Closets has sold more customized storage solutions than any other firm for almost 40 years; their passion and dedication simply cannot be replicated, and it exudes from every detail of their projects.
