Hello There

Part of my job is going out and meeting people — at special events, fundraisers, happy hours, industry gatherings, launches, business appointments and everything in between.

I take these opportunities to expand my mind. Never one for small talk, I ask anyone I meet deep questions to try to figure out what drives them, what they are inspired by and why they do what they do. Some people start off by talking about their family, others prefer to focus on work. Whichever direction the conversation goes, I always leave each new encounter having learned something, and hopefully sharing something interesting about myself in the process. So next time you meet someone new around town, try to strike up a conversation outside of the standard elevator pitch, handshake and card exchange. You just might become a better person because of it. Jorge Arauz

“Don’t ever assume that someone doesn’t have an interesting story to tell — approach each new encounter with genuine interest and curiosity and you’ll surely be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.”
